Spring Home Improvement Plans

During lockdown and the many months spent at home due to the pandemic, I gave a lot of consideration to how we could improve our home. Making home improvements can be beneficial in a number of different ways; it can enhance your living environment, add value to your home and can even impact on finances for example, by lowering energy bills. Here are three ways I am planning to enhance our home this spring.

Adding Space
As a family of five (with three lively boys!) we have found that we are using every last bit of space in the home. And so we are planning to extend our home to add an extra bedroom and create more living space downstairs. As we are awaiting a revised quote from our builders, we have also given consideration to whether a conservatory could be the way forward for us. What I love about these is how they add living space and can open up the room, flooding it with gorgeous, natural light. I love the style of orangeries in particular as they combine traditional extensions with conservatories. They have a base of brick with tall glass windows and lantern roofs.

Changing the Floors
In our busy household, it seems the floors are in constant need of a hoover and clean. We are considering replacing our carpets with oak flooring to ensure the floors can be cleaned and swept with ease. We also love the character and style wood flooring adds and its timeless appearance.

Replacing Windows
We are also replacing a number of windows within our home. We have found that some of our current ones are letting cool air into the home and regularly have condensation on them. Aluminium windows are a stylish and functional option. They add the safety and security desired but also are as effective as uPVC windows. You can opt for a slimmer frame with them yet can still have double or triple glazing for your windows. Replacement aluminium windows can be made to order and can match the colour you desire for your home.

French or Patio Doors
Another change I would like to have is to add some French or patio doors to our dining room. I feel this will open up the space, will add light to our living area and they will also look appealing too. I love how the glass can run from the top to the bottom of the doors and I can't wait to sit with a cup of tea watching the boys play in the garden or watch the birds on the bird feeder on the rare occasions the boys are quiet!

Replacement of front and back doors
Also on our to-do list is to change our front and back doors. Changing the doors can have a real impact on how your home looks; adding character, style and charm to the property. There are lots of different options to choose from including different glazing options as well as a multitude of woodgrain effect colours. I am hoping I can add a splash of modernisation and style to our home by installing new doors.

So there we have it, the three main home improvement plans I have for our home this spring! I'll be sure to keep you updated on how it's all going so watch this space.
